Discussion Response
Good Evening,
The species I chose for this assignment is a type of glowing jellyfish and the website is sciencemag.org. I am very interested in ocean life and how all the creatures come to develop and evolve to the different depths of the ocean. As I was going through the main page of google I tried to look for a website that had the word org at the end. I prefer these sites because they are more oriented towards giving out factual information versus a .com page that anyone could create, and type whatever it is that they like without fact checking. As part of doing online courses, APU also makes you take a class that goes into how to verify online sources and how to distinguish the good sites from the bad, that I found very useful.
Through the website I researched the scientists discovered the Aequorea australis. This jellyfish has been a breakthrough in finding alternate ways of how genes are found in cells.
This website is good source of information as it is a peer reviewed magazine. It also has links that are active, that take you to other articles and expand on the subject which they are talking about. As an example, the article talked about three researchers that won a Nobel Prize for discovering green fluorescent protein as well the development of it and it had the word that you can click on that will take you to the article about the three scientists. This was done throughout the entire article on various topics that are related to the protein that was discovered in this jellyfish. The article also went in depth about how the process went into this jellyfish to discover its proteins and how useful it will be to other research and scientists.
